Every Long-Lost Place is the fruit of a cross-country trip I took at the end of the summer of 2018. I set off from Birmingham, passing through Dallas, Santa Fe, and Denver, then through the southwestern desert and up the California coast and back. The album is an attempt to capture that moment with its endless expanses and stark surprises. At the same time, it's also an attempt to tie that moment into a larger story, interweaving the deserts of the American southwest with the desert imagery of the Bible. It's a record of the human drama of wonder and terror, doubt and thankfulness, restlessness and comfort that we all know.
